NUFC team visit poorly bairns for Christmas

Updated: December 18th, 2025

NUFC paid a special visit to Ward 3, where patients are spending Christmas in isolation.

At a time when many children can’t be with their wider families, visits like this bring a real lift, not just for patients, but for families and the staff caring for them too.

Over the years, Newcastle United visits have created moments that really help families. One that’s still talked about on the ward is Anthony Gordon’s visit last year, when he spent time with Ivy. They kicked a football about, had a proper chat, and Ivy proudly told him all about playing football with her dad and little brother.

The highlight was Ivy teaching Anthony her favourite goal celebration, a joyful cartwheel, which he promised to recreate if he scored, using #IvysCartwheel. Ivy was absolutely buzzing. That visit came during a huge chapter in Ivy’s life. She had her life saving haplo stem cell transplant on Ward 3, with her dad as her donor, supported throughout by the Bubble Foundation.

For Ivy and her family, meeting Anthony wasn’t just about football. It was a bright, happy moment in the middle of a tough journey, and one they’ll never forget. These visits bring laughter, normality and something to look forward to, and they mean more than words can say to the families spending long periods in isolation on Ward 3.
