If you choose to run for the Bubble Foundation, you will be making a Running for the Bubble Foundation can real difference to the lives of children with life threatening immune disorders. Based on Ward 3 at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle, children are admitted for a bone marrow or stem cell transplant. Whilst on the ward they live in isolation, with a parent or carer, in a protective ‘bubble’ to keep them safe from infection, often for many months. We aim to give every young superhero the best chance of recovery & a healthy life.

Your support will help us to provide toys and activities for the children, medical equipment and support for families trying to navigate life with a poorly child. We also fund cutting-edge research into treatments & diagnosis which continues to improve survival rates and gives little lives around the world the chance to thrive.

This fundraiser is inspired by: Rory

When Rory was born, his heel prick test revealed that he had little to no TREC circles, indicating problems with his immune system. After a year of tests, we learned that his body wasn’t producing T-cells properly and a stem cell transplant was the best treatment option. At just 15 months old, Rory underwent a stem cell transplant on Ward 3 in August 2025. As his mum, I was honored and nervous to be his stem cell donor but thankfully it all went smoothly! Now, at 22 months old, Rory is thriving. He’s back to his energetic self, we are able to reduce some medications, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Although the cause of his condition remains a mystery, it is suspected to be a new genetic mutation and is still being investigated. We’re forever thankful to the amazing staff on Ward 3 for their support and care.

Who are the Bubble Foundation?

We are the Bubble Foundation. The charity supporting children with life-threatening immune conditions on Ward 3 at the Great North Children’s Hospital. For these children, even a common cold can be deadly. From the moment they are diagnosed, they must be protected from everyday threats.

Across more than three decades, the Bubble Foundation has been their lifeline. We give our little superheroes the best possible chance to make a full recovery; and we hope to make life a little easier for families navigating the trauma of a poorly child.

While on the ward, the children stay with their parents, inside a protective “bubble” of clean air, to shield them from any infections that could be fatal.

It’s tough. They’re often going through a long and complex treatment. But we don’t want them to lose their childhood, and we strongly believe in the power of play, so we donate toys, activities and games, which are safe for them. We provide comfort and support to families on the Ward and we fund cutting-edge research, which has wide-reaching impacts far  beyond our “bubble” – it continues to improve survival rates and gives little lives around the world the chance to thrive.
