A hospital stay will understandably induce stress, fears and anxieties, and play is the tool we can offer to aid the ability to cope with the experience.

The Play Team on Ward 3 at the Great North Children’s Hospital is made up of a Healthcare Play Specialist Team Leader, and three Nursery Nurses, in their recognisable pink scrubs! The team work seven days a week, ensuring there is always support for our young superheroes. They make structured Play Plans to meet the individual needs of the children in their ‘bubbles’. They deter the negative effects of a hospital stay, isolation and ill health through positive play opportunities, fun, laughter and enjoyment within the most unusual of environments.

Did you know that most of the toys and equipment that the Play Team use in their daily play session with our patients, are funded by the Bubble Foundation? We also fund birthday and seasonal gifts for the children, bringing smiles when they’re needed most.
