I’m taking on The Bubble Foundation’s Steptember challenge — walking 300,000 steps in 30 days to help support babies and children with life-threatening immune conditions and their families.

I chose The Bubble Foundation as my charity for my presidential year as President of the Insurance Institute of Newcastle upon Tyne. The more I learnt about their work, the more it touched me and I felt compelled to support them.

The Bubble Foundation supports babies/children and their families through what can be very long and difficult stays on Ward 3, while also funding life-changing research and specialist equipment.

This year's fundraising is helping towards a mass spectrometry machine that will enable doctors to measure how individual patients respond to chemotherapy, helping them personalise treatment and make it as safe and effective as possible.

But it's not just about the big-ticket items. Donations also make a very real difference to children and families day-to-day — £20, for example, can help keep a child entertained during months of isolation.

For those of us who spend so much of our working lives sitting at a desk, in the car or in front of clients, I thought Steptember would be a great way to challenge myself to get moving while raising money for such an important cause.

I'm delighted that the Personal Finance Society (PFS) Tyne Tees are also supporting The Bubble Foundation during my presidential year.

If you can, please sponsor me and help me reach my 300,000-step target. Every donation will help The Bubble Foundation continue its vital work.

Thank you for your support!
