Brian McFadden announced as new President
News Release: 7 November 2016
Brian McFadden, TV presenter and Boyzlife star has been announced as the new President of The Bubble Foundation UK (based at the Great North Children’s Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne) following in the footsteps of ITV’s much loved agony aunt Denise Robertson who sadly died earlier this year. Brian has been a Patron since first visiting the Bubble Unit in 2004 and since then has raised thousands of pounds for the Foundation.
Brian said today: “I was absolutely honoured to be asked if I would become President of The Bubble Foundation. I have had a close relationship with Gill and the team at The Bubble Foundation for a number of years now and I see the incredible work they do in caring for current patients and tirelessly striving to raise funds for invaluable research into finding effective treatments and a cure.”
In his new role as President Brian was keen to meet fellow Bubble patron Alexander Millar and give his seal of approval on the work of art that will be auctioned off with proceeds being divided between The Bubble Foundation UK, and The Globe Gallery where his show – A Slice of Life – sponsored by intu EldonSquare, runs until mid December. Alexander Millar, whose nostalgic, humorous depictions of the flat-capped, dark-suited working man of Tyneside have catapulted him to fame and fortune, has produced this new original work, ‘Lollipops and 99s’ which reflects on the theme of family togetherness in the North-East, the image of which has taken up permanent residence on the dividing screen at one of the entrances to the new intu Eldon Square dining area. The original oil painting of the image is being auctioned to the general public later this month with the proceeds being divided between the two charities. The work is an original oil painting (400cm x 200cm) and is currently available to view at THE GLOBE GALLERY.
Says Alex: “My dear friend Denise Robertson invited me to be a patron of The Bubble Foundation - an essential charity that requires all the support it can get. I’m delighted that Brian has agreed to become President of the charity – it was great to meet him. The Globe Gallery is a highly respected organisation that is currently involved in the innovative Blossom Tree initiative, supporting those going through anxiety, bereavement and mental health issues. Something I’ve suffered from myself in the past. I’m hoping that the painting will raise as much money as possible for both organisations.”
Wilf Gaffney, Chair of The Bubble Foundation added:
“With the auction of this painting we will be launching a new appeal to fund parent accommodation. The children with these life-threatening conditions face a minimum of 3 months in hospital, and for a significant part of that time their lives are at risk. We treat children from all over the UK and Ireland and having their parents nearby is not a luxury - it’s a necessity. It’s a vital part of the healing process. We are proud to have had the long term support of both Alex and Brian.”
