Doctors
A doctor examines each child at least once a day, usually in the morning and parents have the opportunity to speak daily to a member of the medical team.
Nurses
Each child is allocated a nurse every shift (morning, afternoon and night) to care for all nursing needs e.g. assessing the child’s condition, administration of drugs, assisting with concerns and supporting the family. Each nurse has two children to care for, but where necessary, care is provided on a one to one basis.
Healthcare Assistants
Support parents and the nurses to care for the child
Nursery Nurses
Whenever the child is able, nursery staff play, amuse and help educate each child, making regular developmental assessments and offering advice on activities, which enable children to achieve their developmental goals.
Physiotherapist
Are involved in the assessment and treatment of respiratory, mobility and developmental needs.
Occupational Therapist
Help with children’s continuing development when necessary.
Dietician
Liaises with parents and nursing team to devise a feeding plan appropriate to the child’s needs
Social Worker
Works in partnership with the medical and nursing team to alleviate any hardship experienced by the patient’s family. This involves liaising with various agencies e.g. housing, social security, benefit and charities. The social worker acts as a friend, listener, counsellor and sadly, in some cases, as a bereavement advisor to the families.
Liaison Team
Coordinates support for the child and family before admission and following discharge.
